We are no longer accepting donations on this campaign, but there are other ways for you to support us today!
Your donation supports someone getting a bike, helmet, lights, lock and a pump!
It’s a simple concept: you’ve got bikes you no longer need. We know kids and families who need them. Free Bikes 4 Kidz Madison is geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to underserved populations in southern Wisconsin.
We’re striving towards transportation equity by giving aways bikes to marginalized communities in Dane County, Milwaukee and Racine. As an added bonus, we keep thousands of pounds of metal and rubber out of the landfill by repurposing them into rideable bikes.
We’ve now given away over 9,700 bikes to new bike owners who may have never had the opportunity to experience the joys of owning their own bike. Our operation depends solely on grants, financial donations from individuals and corporations, and donations of gently used bikes that are no longer needed.
It costs about $135 for us to give a kid a refurbished bike, a helmet, lock, headlight, taillight, and bike pump. The $135 covers bike parts, paying our mechanics a fair wage, insuring our workshop, purchasing helmets, locks, headlights, and marketing our program so we can continue to receive donations and support. Your support will help us give bikes away to those who would not otherwise have the opportunity!
