Help us reach 10,000 bikes given away!
We want to spread these smiles to more kids. Can you help us?
We are about to reach an amazing goal, 10,000 bikes given away since our inception in 2017! That's 10,000 more bikers in our community who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to own a bicycle and be supported by our organization with help learning to ride, learning to fit helmets, learning the laws for bikers, and bike path etiquette.
• $5 funds a set of lights
• $10 funds a new helmet
• $15 funds a lock
• $20 funds a bike pump
• $85 funds a fully refurbished bicycle
• $135 funds the full bike package for one individual
If you are not in a position to donate, sharing our fundraiser is a great way to help!
We often hear this, "Why do you have to fundraise when all your bikes are donated?" Every single bike that is donated to us must be serviced or refurbished. These are vehicles and we cannot put unsafe vehicles on the road. We also have to replace a lot of the parts like saddles, grips, chains, tires... So there's the cost of parts, salaries for our professional mechanics, and our utilities to maintain a 12,000 sq. ft. workshop. Plus, we don't 'just' giveaway a bike. It takes a number of accessories to ride safely and efficiently. Free helmets, headlights and taillights, locks, and pumps are all given away when we meet our fundraising goals. This allows people to rely on their bikes as their transportation option.
The cost to us to give away this full bicycle package is $135 per individual. As with all things, the prices of helmets and all the other accessories and bike parts has increased. To meet our goal of giving away 10,000 bikes by the end of 2023, we need to give away about 150 more bikes. The cost for us to give away 150 bikes is $20,250. So we'll be launching a fundraiser through the end of the year to try and raise those funds. Are you with us? We hope so! Our work directly impacts the lives of so many in our community. It helps get kids off screens, improves health and wellness, builds confidence and improves focus, it aids social and emotional development along with being a low cost mode of transportation.
One exciting thing we'll be doing this fall is providing 75 bikes to the Lac de Flambeau Ojibwe reservation in Vilas County, Wisconsin. We'll be hosting a bike donation drive up north because Vilas County is biking country. But very few on the reservation have bikes and tribes were hit incredibly hard by the pandemic. Making biking more equitable is one of our primary goals. Our up north bike donation drive will take place September 16-17. Stay up-to-date by visiting our website and our social channels. Props to Dane County for your generosity and helping us provide for those outside of the county too!
Help us spread these smiles. No donation is too small!
